Terms of service

What we agree to, and what we are not.

This document has not been through legal review

Abroad Allies has not incorporated, so there is no company named here to be contracted with, and no lawyer has approved this text. What follows is an honest description of how the software actually behaves, written from the code that runs it — useful to read, and not yet an agreement anybody can rely on in a dispute.

It is published rather than withheld because a signup form that asks you to accept terms you cannot open is worse than one that shows you an unfinished draft. When the entity exists, this notice goes and a reviewed version replaces the text.

Who you are contracting with

Abroad Allies is the name of the service. The agreement itself is with the company that operates it, whose details are below.

“We” and “us” below mean that company. “You” means the person holding the account. The service is operated from India and is offered at qa-new.abroadallies.com.

What we agree to do

We coordinate and carry out practical work in India on your behalf — visiting a parent, dealing with a property, obtaining or attesting a document, filing a return, buying and shipping something — through named people whose work is recorded as it happens.

  • Each service publishes its actual process before you order, and your order is tracked against that same sequence of steps.
  • Each service publishes its price before you order. The breakdown you approve is the one frozen onto your order; we do not add charges to a confirmed order without asking you.
  • The person doing each step is named to you, and evidence of the work — photographs, receipts, reports — is attached to the order as it is produced.
  • We publish honest timescales rather than promises. Where a step depends on a government office, that is stated, and when a date slips you are told why by the person it slipped for.

What we are not

We are an independent service provider. We are not part of, appointed by, or acting with the authority of any government department, court, registry or consulate, and nothing on this site should be read as suggesting otherwise.

  • We cannot make a government office decide anything. We can prepare a complete application, submit it correctly, and pursue it. Whether it is granted, and when, is not ours to control and we will not pretend it is.
  • We do not mark up statutory fees. A government fee is passed through at what it cost. Our own fee is the separate line you agreed to.
  • We are not your lawyer, accountant or doctor. Where a service involves legal, tax or medical work, it is performed or supervised by an appropriately qualified professional, and their professional relationship with you is theirs. General information on this site is not advice about your situation.
  • We will not do anything unlawful, including offering a payment to an official to speed something up. If a service cannot be completed without that, it cannot be completed, and you get your money back.

What we need from you

  • Accurate information, and the right to give it. Much of what you upload is about somebody else — a parent, a sibling, a tenant. You confirm you are entitled to share it and, where the law requires it, that they know.
  • Documents that are genuine. Submitting a forged or altered document to a government office through us is not something we can be part of, and it ends the account.
  • Care of your own account. Anything done from your account is treated as done by you, so tell us straight away if you think somebody else has access.
  • Reasonable treatment of the people who do the work. They are named, identifiable individuals visiting real addresses. Abuse or threats towards them ends the relationship immediately.

Paying, and getting money back

Prices are shown before you order and the total you approve is what is charged. Where a service can only be quoted, you are quoted before any work starts.

Cancelling, and what comes back when you do, is set out in full on the refunds and cancellations page, which forms part of these terms. In short: what is recoverable depends on how far the work got, government fees already paid are not recoverable, and the rules that apply are the ones published when you paid.

Your documents stay yours

Uploading a document to us does not give us any ownership of it. We hold it to do the work you asked for, and to keep the records the law requires us to keep.

What we collect, why, how long it is kept and how to get a copy or ask for deletion is in the privacy policy. The mechanisms that protect it — and, honestly, the ones not yet built — are on the security page.

When something goes wrong

Tell us. Rating a completed order three stars or below automatically raises a recovery case with a manager and its own deadline — you do not have to chase anybody to be taken seriously. If that does not resolve it, the Grievance Officer is the next step and is required to respond within a defined period.

Where we get something wrong — a step missed, a document lost, a visit that did not happen as recorded — we put it right or refund it. We are responsible for the work of the people we send, and we do not disclaim that.

There are things outside our control, and we are not responsible for those: a government office’s decision or delay, a bank’s processing time, a carrier’s handling once a parcel has left us, or something that could not reasonably have been anticipated. Where a third party we chose is at fault, that is ours.

Ending the agreement

You can close your account whenever you like, and doing so does not require a reason. Work already in progress is settled under the refund rules; records we are legally required to keep, such as invoices, are kept for as long as the law requires and no longer.

We may end it if the account is used for something unlawful, if documents are falsified, or if our staff are abused or threatened. Other than in those cases we will tell you first and finish or refund anything outstanding.

Changes to these terms

We will tell you before these terms change in a way that affects you, and the version that applies to an order is the one published when you placed it. A change is never applied retrospectively to work you have already paid for.

The date this page was last reviewed is at the top. It records when a person last checked this text against what the software actually does — which is a different and more useful fact than when a file was edited.

Law and disputes

These terms are governed by the law of India, and the courts of India have jurisdiction over any dispute. Nothing here takes away a right you have under the consumer protection law of the country you live in, where that law applies to you.

Please use the grievance route first. It is faster, it is free, and it is designed to actually resolve things.

The rest of the set: Terms of service, Privacy policy, Refunds & cancellations, Grievance officer. How documents are handled is on Security & privacy.
