Why People exists
Most of what you order here is for somebody else — usually a parent back home. Rather than typing their details into every order, you add them once under People, and from then on any order can simply name them.
What you add
A person's record holds what an order needs to be filled out on their behalf — who they are and where they are. Once they exist under People, the ordering builder can attach them to a new order in its "who it is for" step instead of asking you to retype anything.
One record, many orders
Add a parent once and every service you order for them — from a document to a home visit — points back to the same record. You are not re-entering their details each time, and their history of orders lives in one place you can return to.
Where it fits in the order
When you start an order, the builder's second step is choosing who it is for. That is where a person you have already added under People appears, ready to select.
